Mohammed leads the Economic Research division at the Public Investment Corporation. The division provides economic input into investment strategy formulation, implementation, review and adaptation. Established in 1911, the Public Investment Corporation (SOC) Limited is one of the largest investment managers in Africa today, managing assets of over R2 trillion and still growing.
Prior to joining the PIC, Mohammed was the Head of Strategic Research at a leading South African Investment Bank. His experience spans multiple asset classes including equity, fixed income, derivatives and financial engineering.
He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, after obtaining the coveted CFA Charter in 2008 from the CFA Institute in Charlottesville in the USA. He also holds Honours in International Trade and Finance and an Undergraduate in Informatics from the University of Johannesburg as well as a Certificate in Senior Management and Leadership from the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
As a CFA charter holder, Mohammed has always aimed to merge the academic world of Economics with the practicalities of capital markets and the real economy. Mohammed is a regular participant at conferences and roundtable discussions both domestically and abroad.
He is a regular market commentator and guest on CNBC Africa, Summit TV and Classic FM to name a few, Mohammed is a recognised face in the South African Financial Industry.
Mohammed’s experience spans Private client, Institutional and Corporate client bases as well as experience in Equities, Equity Derivatives and Multi Asset class solution structuring. In 2004, Mohammed was selected as a Top 10 Finalist in South Africa for the Budget Speech Competition, held for Economics graduates.
Drawing on his knowledge and passion, Mohammed brings great depth and open discussion to business forums.
